Finally Home!
Jessie
My family adopted a white dog named Jessie from CHA 10 years ago. She
came into our lives when we needed her most. Our previous family dog had passed away just 3 weeks earlier while we were on vacation and we were devastated to say the least. Jessie brought such joy and amazement into our lives. We first saw Jessie in your shelter at the old location in Westerville and once she licked my husband in the face, we knew she was the dog for us. From the moment we brought her home it was apparent Jessie was a feisty one. She was very protective of her family and always let us know when there was a passerby or someone was approaching the house long before they got to the front door. As I mentioned, Jessie was very protective of her family, but she was also very loving. She was known for her licks. Whether it was your face, your hands, your feet or just the air, her tongue was always going. She was also a mentor to our younger dog, a golden retriever named Wilson. She taught Wilson to bark and while he didn't really know why they were barking, he followed her lead nonetheless. Although these are just a few of our most memorable moments from her almost 11 years of life, we thought you would want to know she went to a good home, lived a good life and was a great friend to us all. Jessie enriched our lives greatly and will truly be missed. Fondly, Stacy, Lee, Andrea and Max Rosenthal along with Wilson
Wickman (aka Bailey at CHA) is a 2 year old flame-point ragdoll cat with piercing blue eyes. His new mom says he is a good kitty, but doesn't like long car rides and meowed nearly the entire trip up to Northeast Ohio for Christmas. However, he did enjoy meeting his "cousin" kitties up there. He came to CHA a product of a divorce, and of course was immediately snatched up because of his laid-back demeanor and beautiful markings by one of our volunteers. He is very happy in his new home!
Maggie
Maggie (same name CHA gave her) is a shepherd-chow mix and was around 9 months old when my husband adopted her in November of 1994! She has been, and continues to be, the most gentle, calm, and kind dog we have ever known. Our family doesn't know life without Maggie - she has always been here. She is special to all who knows her. She has never been ill, but is quite the senior citizen. We want to thank your organization for giving us the chance to find Maggie and bring her into our lives.
Sincerely, The Biskners
Tangerine & Scampi
Cheese (left) is not a CHA kitty, but Tangerine is. Cheese quickly accepted his new buddy and the two cats are now inseparable.
Tangerine was adopted the webmaster's family in December 1999 (long before the webmaster was associated with CHA) as the successor to a 14-year-old cat that died. Recently, they've been joined by Scampi, a small gray tiger cat from CHA.
Orange CHA kitty Tangerine grew to be a big, healthy cat and he now has a little buddy. Scampi (formerly Shawshank and then Chowder) is a gray CHA kitty who was found on a boat. They prefer sleeping on books or magazines, or in the sink.
Babe
I was a regular volunteer for quite a few years, and Babe was my first and only attempt at fostering a dog in 2003. Babe was at CHA at the old farm house on Westerville road when I met her for the first time. It was my first week volunteering and we were trying to move Babe out of her inside cage to her outside cage, but she wouldn't have it. I took her in as a foster, I think, after my second week of volunteering. It was history after that. I decided to adopt Babe because not only did I love her, but I feared she would never get adopted, or if she did get adopted, she would be quickly returned because of her less than pleasant personality.
I considered Babe a "special needs" dog and she lived up to her label. Even though Babe was in pretty bad shape when I took her in and wasn't very socialized, she learned to love life and even a few people along the way.
Babe died of chronic kidney disease on February 5, 2008--three weeks after her brother, Simon, whom she loved so much. She was eight years old. Probably only a few people remember Babe, if any, but I just wanted to pass the word along.
Thanks, Carolyn
Galileo
"I first spotted Clark (now Galileo) on the CHA web page. A few days later I went to the shelter to look around, and the minute I saw him I knew he was the one for me. As I walked into the room, his big green eyes just stared out at me, and begged for me to take him home. In the short time that Galileo has been part of my life, he's become so very precious to me! No one could ask for a sweeter, more lovable pet!!!"
Sincerely,
Colleen Hainz
Galileo died far too young at age 4 1/2.
"It is with a sad heart that I write this update, as my beloved pet suddenly passed away on June 27, 2003. Only 4 1/2 years old, I will never have any idea what happened, or why he was taken from me. I loved Galileo as my own child, and he was the most wonderful cat anyone could ever wish for. He will always be dearly loved, dearly missed, and always in my heart. I wouldn't trade my time with him for anything."
Murray
Murray is doing great and is a very lovable dog with a new name--Bear (Hint: his size and color.) He is taking obedience classes, and he is very playful. He loves to play with our vacuum cleaner! He is a WONDERFUL walker and loves to go to the park and play or walk a trail. According to the vet, Bear is part German Shepherd, part Collie, and a little Chow. No wonder he is so big!
Zootie
Zootie (a.k.a. Butterfly, bright ginger) joined the family in November 2000 as a companion to Agamemnon who had just lost his buddy of 5 years. Zootie was just a 3.1 pound ball of fluff. She has grown but still looks tiny compared to Aggie. Aggie adores his little sister. Her favorite place to sleep is on my left shoulder.
Chelsea
We adopted Chelsea, a miniature longhaired dachshund, on March 11, 2000. She was 3 years old and had had several litters of puppies. She was quite hyper, barked almost constantly, terrorized our cat, our dog Tootsie was somewhat jealous, and she was not housebroken!! She was quite a handful.
I must say that I thought of returning her often. But every time I looked into her big eyes, she would start wagging tail with such a look of anticipation (she appreciates even the slightest attention) I realized that I could never bring her back. It's been almost a year since she came to live with us. She has quite a personality, has calmed down a lot and keeps us laughing. We're still working on the housebreaking but it's under control most of the time.
The bottom line is, she is very loved and we know she was meant to be with us and I think she feels happy and secure living here. Tootsie and Chelsea
are good friends now.
The cat?? Well, Chelsea leaves her alone, most of the time and kitty keeps her distance.
Thank you CHA!
