Donate to the Pilkinton Adoption Fund to help offset the cost of reduced adoption promotions

New Fund Program in 2011!

In 2010, 236 dogs and 349 cats were adopted, for a total of 585 adoptions. This is a 13 percent increase from our 2009 adoption total of 519.

While we are incredibly proud of this accomplishment, it has not come without a price. Much of our adoption increase is credited to lowering adoption fees, and since we have not lowered the level of care our animals receive, this has produced a deficit in our adoption income. However, we know these reduced rates are likely an essential way to continue to increase our adoptions, so we need to ensure a long-term means of supporting this trend.

To do so, we are introducing the Pilkinton Adoption Fund, to which donations can be earmarked to subsidize reduced adoption fees. The fund was started with a generous bequest from long-time member and volunteer Joyce Pilkinton to allow focus on increasing the number of adoptions without worry of the financial impact of reduced adoption fees.

With your contribution to this fund, we can help even more animals find their loving homes in 2011 and beyond.

Remembering CHA in your will or establishing an endowment:

Is CHA Listed in Your Will? Will bequests and other methods of planned giving are important to nonprofit organizations like CHA. Bequests from estates — whether a few thousand or a few hundred thousand dollars — are always welcome, but often unknown to the organization until after the death of the benefactor.

CHA has made much progress over the years because of numerous bequests, including a few large ones that significantly boosted the new building and made it a reality in 2003. “The shelter is sincerely appreciative of all such gifts, but we are often surprised to be contacted by legal representatives from an estate with the news that we are the beneficiary,” said CHA President Stacia Eckenwiler. “It is sometimes a mystery how the person was connected to CHA and we’d like to know how they were associated with the shelter, but more importantly, we’d like to thank them while they are still around.”

To help CHA in this regard, contact CHA Development Director, Terri Montigny at (614) 309-6999 or Terri@CHAAnimalShelter.org if you have designated CHA as a beneficiary in your will or trust, or if you have set up a fund or endowment through an organization such as The Columbus Foundation. Terri also can provide information on how to set up such a fund or ensure CHA is accurately recorded in your will.

CHA works closely with the Columbus Foundation to provide long-term planning for our shelter to ensure we can continue our mission for many years to come.  For more information about remembering us in your will or to establish an endowment, please contact
